Why Choose a 4 Inch Exhaust for Your Toyota HiLux?

The factory HiLux exhaust is designed around cost and cabin noise, not airflow. A larger 4 inch pipe reduces restriction between the turbo and the tailpipe, which helps the engine clear exhaust gases more easily when you're towing, loaded up or running a tune. Every system in this range is mandrel bent, so the pipe keeps a consistent internal diameter through each bend instead of crushing at the corners. Stainless steel construction also stands up well to wet tracks, beach driving and river crossings.

A bigger pipe won't transform a completely standard engine on its own. The gains are most noticeable on tuned or modified vehicles, and on vehicles that regularly work hard. If you're not sure which setup suits your build, contact our team and we'll point you in the right direction.

DPF-Back vs Turbo-Back Systems

Both layouts are available for the N80/N90 HiLux, and the right one depends on how you use your vehicle:

  • DPF-back: replaces the exhaust from the diesel particulate filter rearward, keeping the factory emissions equipment in place. Browse more in our DPF-back exhaust systems collection.
  • Turbo-back: replaces the entire factory system from the turbo outlet, including the DPF, for the freest possible flow. These are intended for off-road or competition use only. See more turbo-back exhaust systems.

Removing emissions equipment can make a vehicle non-compliant for road use in Australia, and rules vary by state. Read our guide to muffler delete and DPF delete legality in Australia before you decide.

Pick Your Sound: Quiet, Medium or Loud

Choose the exhaust note that suits how you drive. Muffled options keep the cabin comfortable on long highway trips and while towing. Muffler-delete options give a deeper, louder note for off-road builds. If you want to fine-tune the look and sound, add a set of exhaust tips.

Built for the Toyota HiLux

These systems are vehicle-specific bolt-on kits, designed to suit the factory mounting points of the GUN126R N80/N90 HiLux with the 2.8L and 2.4L turbo diesel engines from 2015 to 2026. Frequently Asked Questions

Will a 4 inch exhaust fit my Toyota HiLux?

The 4 inch systems on this page are made for the GUN126R N80/N90 HiLux with the 2.8L or 2.4L turbo diesel engine, 2015–2026. They are vehicle-specific bolt-on kits designed around the factory mounting points. If you drive an older HiLux, check our Toyota HiLux exhaust collection for other fitments, or contact us to confirm what suits your vehicle.

Will a 4 inch HiLux exhaust be too loud or drone inside the cab?

It depends on the version you choose. Systems with a muffler are tuned for a quiet or medium note, which suits daily driving and touring. Muffler-delete versions are noticeably louder. Compare the options in our Manta Toyota exhaust range, and check the sound level in each product title before you order.

What's the difference between a DPF-back and a turbo-back exhaust?

A DPF-back system replaces the exhaust from the diesel particulate filter backwards and keeps the factory DPF. A turbo-back system replaces everything from the turbo outlet, including the DPF, and is intended for off-road or competition use only. See our DPF-back and turbo-back collections, and read our guide to DPF delete legality before choosing.

Do I need a tune after fitting a 4 inch exhaust on my HiLux?

No, the exhaust bolts on without a tune. However, the biggest gains usually come when a larger exhaust is paired with an ECU tune or other modifications, because the engine can make use of the extra airflow. If you're planning a tune, talk to your tuner about your exhaust setup, or ask our team for advice.
